Now, in 2024 he has announced that he will be releasing a new studio album songs that will be released, and its name is, “The Border”. “The Border” album was released by Legacy Recordings, which will include ten new recorded performances, from four new Nelson/Buddy Cannon compositions which include – “Once Upon a Yesterday”, “How Much Does It Cost” and “Hank’s Guitar,” and this which was also written by Cannon and Bobby Tomberlin. So this album of songs, Nelson shared his opinion of including Rodney Crowell’s “The Border,” which was also written by Crowell and Allen Shamblin as part of Crowell’s 2019 album Texas.
The songs speak on the difficulties or challenges faced by the border people and there comes a line, “I come home to Maria in a bulletproof vest/ With the weight of the whole wide world bearing down on my chest.” Through this new album of his, he is also extending his support to some of country music’s songwriters, including The Border including Nelson’s versions of songs written by Larry Cordle and Erin Enderlin which as “I Wrote This Song For You”, Crowell and Will Jennings’s song that is “Many a Long and Lonesome Highway”.
